This competency means always thinking before speaking, and understanding when to speak and when to remain quiet. When giving information, one with good Oral Communication speaks in a respectful and appropriate manner to others, asks and responds to questions to make sure points are clear, and delivers information in a timely manner. When receiving information, he or she listens attentively and is responsive to customers, supervisors, and coworkers, doesn't interrupt or intimidate them, and encourages them to express their ideas. This competency allows one to keep others well informed of important information as well as listen to, understand, and follow verbal directions from others.
